OverDose – The Game

Posted on January 2nd, 2009 by Mola OG

Ok! I'm sure the hiphop heads on this blog would know OverDose. He clicks with Mode9, and he's done a collabo with Joe-Spazm (Terry Tha Rapman). He's been in the naija rap game for a while but he's not getting the proper airtime he definitely deserves. I can literally count, on one hand, the naija rappers that are actually better than him.

I heard this (and a few other songs from him) a while back, but I figured some time will come when I'd be able to actually get a feedback from known naija hiphop observers as to why he's still not blowing up yet. Isn't he good enough? Or is it his promoters that are screwing him over? Your thoughts, please. Help me help him…

See, u couldn't flow if your names were Ocean Tides.

Ol' boy took a swipe @ RuggedMan as well…

Most of thse artists need to understand that they have a choice. You can be the Jay Z (well balanced lyrically and commercially), the 50cent(halfway decent but heavily commercial), or the Souljah boy (completely about the cash). If you choose to sit in the “Canibus” or “Saigon” corner, dont f**king whine when you see your mates making money.
I’m sure a lot of the greats have managed to make very commercial lyrical music. Think B.I.G, think Andre 3000, think Eminem.
Even Jay Z said it..”If skills sold then truth be told, I’d probably be lyrically Talib Kweli”
Every man chooses his fate. Because you do not get mass appeal and admiration like Dbanj, 9ice, 2face, rugged man, el dee, naeto c and all the heavy hitters, you come online and whine like it’s someone else’s fault.
You all have to grow with the times and learn new tricks. Thats what has kept Jay Z, Common and even Snoop relevant to this day. It’s so f**cking annoying, all this “keeping it real” talk.

for a newcomer to the Nigerian music scene (it shows in your writings…details…what you know and what you don’t) this is some pretty nice work you’re doing here.
big ups!

Wow! Its indeed amazing to see all the hiphop heads responding to this post. Great talent certainly does not stay hidden for long. As Huey said on his blog, “if they refuse to support these artists…the blogs should support them in their own little way.” Thanx 4 all the valid points.
@Matt Sesoo, thanx 4 stopping by the blog.
So u know, OD’s no longer with Paybacktyme. He’s now with KD World Records, alongside Abuja cats like Pherowshuz and Gee Zee. …and the line “speaking foul about peeps just to blow is played out..” was aimed at Ruggedman. Remember, Ruggedman continuously dissed Kenny & D1 (Raypower 100.5, AIT and Kennis Music) at the very beginning of his career. Ruggedman built his career on that alone. To refresh your memory, his major diss song was titled “Big Bros.” U can find it on youtube.

he didn’t take a swipe at rugged man on this track….I believe he said “speaking foul about peeps just to blow is played out..” in response to the claim that he was dissing rugged man on the other song. or am i missing something?
