Matt Sesoo ft ND – Cheatin

Posted on March 10th, 2009 by Mola OG

Matt Sesoo has improved and ND is singing way better now. Constant work on your craft,  particularly if you have the talent and passion for the music, always works out for the best. He did a full song format on this one (no freestyles), using Kardinal Offishall’s instrumental for ‘Dangerous’…

I say they did a good job on this one, what do you say?

@tmonei: Dropping “street slangs” means different things in different parts of Nigeria. Lagos/Ibadan slangs don’t necessary play in ABJ, Jos, Kaduna, Kano… or Bauchi, Enugu, Warri.

Matt Sesso’s doing him. If his music is good he’ll be fine, even without forcing in superfluous pidgin references. So what if agberos in Lagos don’t bump him? We’ve got to reevaluate our notions of success. If dude can do what he loves and make a decent living that way, he’s successful. Period. Plus, we live in a much more connected world now. If his music can play all across Africa, and all across the globe – and play easier because he doesn’t use hyperspecific local slang – then he’s doing good.

Your model’s broken, homie.

Song’s alright, but I need to hear a Matt Sesso joint that’s not on someone else’s soundtrack. Hook up with a real producer, dude.

@oluseyi…..dont put me in a box, sir….I AM ALL ABOUT MAKING MUSIC THE NAIJA STREET AND THE WORLD CAN RELATE WITH WITHOUT COMPROMISING INTERNATIONAL STANDARD AND QUALITY……I believe some people call it going mainstream…..there are ways of doing that…..either in ur lyrics or chorus

believe me street lingo is da same all over naija…casting buttie, some people may choose to close their eyes to it…..

good music must appeal to people of all background without compromising international standard and it must be bankable….AYO, ASA, ARA, LAGBAJA, FEMI KUTI, YOUSOUR NDOUR, TUFACE are doing it….go and study their modus operandi….

its up to Matt Sesso and others wat they want to do……but if you are doing music for fun, you may choose to ignore what am saying…we are 120 million in naija….and there is money to made out there….the reason for any business (music) is to make profit…

maybe if you float a record label or become a marketer and not only a dedicated listener, you will understand…

music business in naija (anywhere) is complex and artistes need to understand the ECONOMICS OF ENTERTAINMENT…

cheers

@Oluseyi…Thank you very much…it appears nigerians have misconstrued the meaning of success, they think it is all about the money. I mean it is good to have money and all, but it is not the end all be all…satisfaction in wat you do is also success, whether it racks in the millions or just enuff to make a living.

@tmonei…the pasumas, and wasius all did wat they were comfortable doing in their skin…and lucky for them the made their money off it, but I strongly believe if they were better singing in English they wud have done that…

@naija MCs….If ur flows are not as logical and articulate as MI’s better pad ur lyrics with naija street slangs…..be honest wit urself..

an all western lyrics in naija music scene!! believe me “dont try it at home” dats da name of da stunt….lol

even MI drops street lingo in his lyrics….go and listen to “feel e” and “safe” well well…

good effort from matt sesso….looking good…..

a lil advice….no doubt you can rap western but you need to consider the street peeps i.e. the agbero, mechanic and shoemakers…include naija flavour in ur lyrics…..its all about the benjies, man…

keep repping matt sesso…

Im tired of all this consider street pple, agbero, shoemakers talk…like you can’t be a shoemaker or mechanic and be polished and understand and feel wat a person is saying without their flow getting dumbed down. This idea that service workers are of a lower breed/intellect level is a contributing factor to wat brings us down. And to those that throw in pidgin and vernacular in their flows, I appreciate it when it comes naturally as is the case when it is colloquially induced. if pidgin did not come to you when u were thinking/writing ur flow, done try to force it in there….After all, we all learned English in school so wat is this talk about western style this or that…in case u dont know there are nigerians, born and raised in naija who don’t have the typical naija accent…

PS: I’m no fan of Matt Sesoo, but I can see he has improved from what I used to hear…I call that progress.

@boondock…..all i av to say is its all about da paper…..pasuma, obesere, wasiu and co remain da highest paid artist today cos da street understands them….

we will always av less exposed and less educated people among us who cant help their choice of music….u either take advantage of that or manage the proceed from ur so called educated minded people……

the day agbero’s starts pasting MI’s poster on danfo’s like they do Pasuma and obesere’s poster is the day he should consider himself a legend…..and smilling to da bank well well…lol

lets face it computer savvy peeps like us praise artist wit on the blog then turn around and burn their songs in our bedroom….wats use is dat to them..

the only avenue left to make money is through shows and all…..for an artist to command enough audience at shows he must have appealed people from all backgrounds……

wats da use when u are critical acclaimed and not getting paid for your effort…..

a sharp and versatile artist needs to think about da business side of things when writing lyrics…..

moreover, its not our praises dats going to pay for studio session……….lol
