Luralph – Whatagwan (O njo bi okoto)
Posted on May 5th, 2009 by Mola OGAnother joint from Luralph, but this time he attempts to go the ‘party song‘ route. I don’t blame him!
How do you like this one?

I think I would have gone insane if he depended on autotune for this song. This is a significant shift from my first impression of him, but still not disappointed. Dude knows how to mash up Yoruba and English as if they are the same language, LOL.
This would certainly do it at parties. Nuff respect.

Boring Boring Boring. There's like 20 other guys making records exactly like this. What makes you any different? Why should i listen to you. Nothing unique. Instantly forgettable.

yea, man…very decent song….listenable as someone rightly said……I am not a fan of dance music but am moving to it……cos I like it…..dat is da guy da gave us "ojo"…
part of da reason I like it is becuase da production does not contain unreasonable excesses i.e. drum rolls and da producer shouting in da background just to encourage dancing…..da track is HONEST as they come witout any gimick to force you on da dance floor…..good instrumental as well…….
and again I think there is nothing wrong wit da songwriting……it's on point….he must be dat good to write a yoruba lines into his lyrics….we can't all be NEYO or Rafeal Sidique….and dis is naija, artiste need to rap wit their hood and audience in mind…..which duralph did, PERIOD!!
Keep repping, Duralph…..

My sister came up with the expression “Encouraging,” which is when the lyrics don’t quite fit the bars and/or don’t rhyme, so you “encourage” them into place – typically by holding some syllables with a splash of melisma. It always sounds… off.
This song is rife with encouraging. That aside, it’s listenable, but it just doesn’t feel constructed. It feels lazily slapped together. I’m getting to a point where my requirements in terms of songwriting are rising – I just don’t have the time to indulge poorly written songs.
Step. Your. Game. Up.

@ Tmonei; I definitely am not “downing” dude’s skills. The fact that many who are bilingual on their songs are not this fluid, just makes him stand out. He’s not just talking the lyrics, he’s actually singing. Props!

wow. I first heard of Luralph through Olamild and the track he did with Ayuba. (Or was it Pasuma).
Anyway, um, I didn’t let this pay past the 35 second mark. I think I will stop there.

Something is definitely wrong with the chorus.
The song is so slooooow (boring). He sounds tired in this song or is it just me?
It’s all good though. He tried.
Another track please
