Video: Afrogist Tv Interviews P-Square in Atlanta, Ga

Posted on June 16th, 2009 by Mola OG

The Okoye twins have no idea how many people are mad at them for coming to Yankee and not even performing once. Well, they address that issue in this interview.

I totally understand where these guys are coming from, but they don’t express themselves well enough, and it can come out as arrogant and corky…they need to get better publicist and PR agents, PR is not just about spreading word on an album or what the artist is doing, it is also about managing an image…African artists and entertainers are deserving of celebrity status, but they don’t act in a manner that commands celebrity status. Yes they are famous, but don’t confuse that with being a celebrity, a lot of our entertainers still have to walk a mile to get that status…take for example this interview, this is no coincidence/I just met them on the street interview, but yet they have a somewhat lackadaisical approach to it – the cellfone ringing, the tone and body language, the repetitious looking down and fiddling with things instead of lookinng at the camera from time to time, all that doesn’t bode well…for a duo that is apparently big on standards for their performances, they don’t project those high standards in their demeanor.

I really appreciate that perspective on the concert thing, I do share the same sentiments with little differences tho, if it is going to be done let it be done right, but I don’t believe it is the quantity that matters. I remember seeing one of our naija musicians perform in yankee and they were passing mic around, the space was crunched, equipments were failing here and there, that whole experience was bitter for me. Our artists deserve better, if we can’t even treat them to some basic artist dignity, the world isn’t going to do it for us, so concert promoters please take note.

And P-Square, there is nothing wrong with performing/showing up in a club to do something for the fans, u just don’t count that as a concert, but a gesture of entertainment for the fans that are there. T-Pain, Snoop Dogg, Lil’ Wayne and the rest have appeared in clubs b4, and the clubs are packed to capacity depending on how it was advertised, I don’t think they get paid for such appearances, and even if they do, they probably spend it there with their fans and entourage. It is all a gesture for the fans, it’s called sowing a seed and it pays dividends…also please don’t call ur previous work thrash regardless of if u feel u are working on something that is gonna be better, it is very disrespectful to the fans who really appreciate those songs, u can just say we are working on something that we believe would be better…again this is due to the lack of proper PR Agents…if u need proper PR agents I can hook u up…ciao

The twins have a point though. Yes, they do have a huge fan base over here but it’s some of these same fans who can’t be bothered to shell out over $10 for tickets so the venue can be filled to capacity.

Coupled with duplicitous promoters who merely want to make a profit and cut corners by refusing to give these local artistes the standard treatment (paying for their flights, hotels, and transportation, organizing an appropriate venue , etc). It’s like the promoters expect the artistes to do them a favor simply because we are from the same good old continent.

I can’t blame P-square for shying away from flying over 8 hours to perform for an audience of 1000 when they easily book audiences of 50,000 and up back home. At the end of the day,it’s all about the money – for artistes and promoters both.

These guys feel themselves a little too much… Not taking anything away from their music cos it’s good, but after watching their interview with cnn, I was very turned off by their arrogance.. I heard they wanted 40gs to do a show in atl… For real? Who will pay them that in yankee and get their money back?

these dudes r clowns. first, 280gs for busta? what for?…and hear the other say its not about the money, fucking idiots. when u do show in africa, u get a stadium fill with 60, 70, 80thou pple. if u do a show in america or canada, if u get 1000 u r lucky; but that don’t mean u cannot do a show. they will aplogize for this one day.
