Ezzie B – We De Run Things + Soldier (Premiere)

Posted on July 13th, 2009 by Mola OG

Ezzie B who is popularly known for her ‘Ezzie blogisode‘ series is currently working on an EP which should be out in the Fall of ’09. Some of you may not know this, but Ezzie is a student at the University of Maryland currently pursuing her Doctorate in Pharmacy. Fortunately, she has been recording more frequently these past few weeks due to the summer break and is scheduled for a 2 week media tour in Nigeria starting July 16, 2009.

We De Run Things‘ which happens to be her lead single off the yet untitled EP features Ghanaian rapper, Disastrous. ‘Soldier‘, another track off the EP brings out the conscious side of Ezzie where she spits and sings on the hook.

not feeling ' we de run things' at all. maybe it needs a few repeat listens. not sure what it is. i will still drop another comment regarding this song.

BUT 'soldier' is the sh*t!!!! this is the type of track i'm expecting from Ezzie….Nice one! nice beat, nice flow, nice lyrics. Ezzie is by far my fav Female naija rapper. i always knew she could get it right if she went to the studio.

    Ezzie baby!!!…..Awwwwwwww!!!!!

  2. allen Says:

Ezzie writes crazy…she has crazy lines like "amma rock like a pebble" and my latest fav "this is a banger/like end of december"…think she needs to work on her delivery though – still sounds like a rookie sometimes. As for Soldier; idunno but I think its leaning towards a N.A.I.J.A/Zara sorta style.

  3. jimbotronicks Says:

I feel Ezii n ting bu sumen bau d 1st trak kept takn mi bak2 Zara. D tracks r kuul sha. But after lisnin 2 Lord Jahza, dey kinda saund bland. =o

  4. rapjunkie Says:

it aint all about punchlines my friend.

her delivery is fine………'still sounds like a rookie'…..what does that mean? its either she can rap or she can't. make ur mind up. jeeeeeeez!!!

  6. jahza Says:

ezzie….is hott and madd talented….' and when they say that u cant do it, tell them say u can handle it'…im happy for the message in the lyriks' and her delivery nice…keep on ezzie…i got urback

  7. babygal Says:

1st song is not my cup of tea AT ALL, not feeling it! but Soldier is off the chain tho!

  8. Tosin Says:

both joints are ok…not bad at all at all… However, they still get no respect tho cause u sound way too much like Zara….omo men…u gota find another style yo…u cant be bitin

  9. Naijamusikfan Says:

Soldier is hot…definitely substantial. "We run tings" I like the fact it has a Ghanian on it…shows she's not scared or trapped in a narrow Naija-centric music focus. Even though, I'd expected something a lil funkier from Ezzie than the club drink thing.

Also not sure where this Ezzie B sounds like Zara stuff is coming from…thats just unnecessary confuzion. I mean I don't hear it at all and it never was mentioned before on the FAB 5 when they were on the same track.

If you listen to the FAB 5 Su Mo bi & The Flyest vs. Soldier & We Run Tings. You hear nothing but distinctions beside the fact they are women.

I'm gonna have to echo people's sentiments here and concur that the "we dey run things" track is mediocre at best. Not really feeling it. As far as soldier is concerned, I woulda been just fine if she didn't feel the need to sing the hook as well. It kinda spoilt it for me. To be honest, what I think Ezzie needs more than anything else is a good producer, not just for the beats, but to run her through the entire thing so that she's on point all the way through. I feel like she either gets bored or loses concentration/focus on what she's trynna achieve midway through a lot of her songs. That and a proper mixer should do her a world of good. And before anyone feels the need to start cyber attacking me, lemme just say I have mad respect for the chic and I'm just trynna offer constructive criticism here

  11. naijamusikfan Says:

this is not an attack: 'mediorce at best' 'if she didnt feel the need to sing the hook' u have a funny way starting off constructive criticism. As if an artist has to live up to surreal expectations. Ezzie's efforts as an independent artist on decent beats with good delivery and great lyrics. I am sure she knows the shortcoming of her singing…i suppose thats y she raps primarily.

We have to use forums like this to encourage artists. Applaud their efforts.

  12. jimbotronicks Says:

I'm not sayn she sounds like Zara all the time. Ezii haz her own style n das y I feel her but on d 1st track there were lots of times she sounded like Zara.

  13. EagleEye Says:

Not a bad rapper by any means. I like the clever lyricism in ‘we dey run things,’ and ‘soldier’ is on point with the message, yet playful lyrics.

  14. just.a.Dj Says:

plz, not feeling any of the track… plz go back to the drawing broad

  15. Don X Says:

..Ezzie holds her own! ..be supportive people

Keep doin d damn thing ma

  16. Sola Says:

this comment was on the money.. hit the mark PERFECTLY! ESPECIALLY not singing that hook…but i think that we dey run things is okay..could have been done better..

  17. Boondock Says:

After my last comment, I refuse to write too much, but as an EP, these songs are not quite there yet, I believe she can do better, and yeah, she appears to be zwagger jacking…intentional or not, I hear it and I mention..I believe as she grows she can get better tho…

  18. Tony Says:

Where’s your own track make we hear am. Rubbish! The songs are GOOD jare

  19. Tony Says:

Where’s your own track make we hear am. Rubbish! The songs are GOOD jare. She sound better than most of the female musicians we gat in naija

  20. geelah Says:

EZZIE IS ALREADY PLATINUM, ONE WORD- AND THIS IS ON A SOLDIER ” WOW” THAT TRACK IS REAL.
I MET LIL MAMA @ THE NAIJAH HIPHOP SUMMER JAM, SHORTY HAS SUCH A GOOOD JOYFULL SPIRT THAT REFLECTS IN HER MUSIC.
A WHOLE LOT OF PEEPS AIN’T READY FOR YOU MAMA, JUST DON’T STOP THE SHINING. TURN THE HEAT UP ON THESE BLOOD CLATS , RASS CLAT…
TO TELL YOU THE TRUTH THE SONG IS VERY INSPIRATIONAL AND INNOVATIVE – TIMELESS MUZIK BABY…

    I SMELL A COLLABO.. I AM DEFINATELY A FAN OF EZZIE’S MUZIK….

    PEACE AND LOVE

  21. ALAPOPLENTYFULL Says:

Ezzie BBBBB….Just like Mama B nothing do u jare.what u people need to know is that. She does this as a hobby and am very sure she has other commitments too,
She does not SOUND LIKE NO ONE expect herself.I respect her so much cos MUSIC no be easy thing…..

Ezzie Mama carry dey go jare…..nothing do uuuu..Dbanj don talk am “u dont have to make sense” Yet u still dey make sense.

  22. leslie Says:

nice effort ezzie…but i think you really should record some more and get comfortable with your sound and create the ‘ezzie’ style that will set you apart from all your counterparts. it’s really good to see more female hiphop acts coming out; it’s very brave. big ups to weird mc, sasha, blaise, kel, and bouqui for pioneering this move…esp kel for bringing more confidence to the game for all the ladies.

  23. djgq Says:

Ok, maybe my choice of words may have been a tad bit harsh, and for that I apologize. I do however stand by the message behind it fully. And FYI, the next level after mediocre is not surreal so no one is expecting anything surreal. Let me reiterate; I have mad respect for the chic and what she does, but being supportive does not mean dick riding on whatever any artist puts out there. We can be supportive without being sycophantic. The reason why the song is on a forum like this is so that we can all chip in our two cents, positive or otherwise. Wrong? And if we both agree that maybe she shouldn’t have been on the hook (at least I think that’s what you’re hinting at with “I am sure she knows the shortcoming of her singing…i suppose thats y she raps primarily”), then the comment would have served to help her think twice about singing another hook, and that I think is a good thing :)

  24. Tmonei Says:

“we run things” is not a bad track….I like da concept…..she needs to put in more heart/soul….I mean her flow lacks identity and dis makes her forgettable….above all, its a very good effort…am surprised in a good way…

“soldier” is a good one…and its good to know she reps naija 24/7….

good to know she is a PHD student….atleast she has got something to fall back on if music flops…

    keep repping, Ezzy….

  25. allen Says:

calm down, its not that serious. i’m just one person with an opinion that i am entitled to…whether or not it makes sense to you.

  26. allen Says:

@ Tony, which female musicians have you been listening to?

  27. SamDee Says:

Am def. feeling this track…someone said her flow lacks identity…that is just garbage to me…this Track is nice..nice hook…nice flow..the beat is def. hot too..keep moving on

  28. pencil Says:

she was ok on both. i feel she could do better tho.

  29. solomonsydelle Says:

First track: Really liked the beat when it started, but that chorus…oh no. She sounds good on it though, I get her laid back, big girl flow on it. But again, I really like the beat and feel a bit more could have been done with it. But, its not easy, so keep up your hard work babe.

Second track: I get what she was trying to do, but must confess it didn't work for me. Anyway, again, keep doing your thing.

  30. LetsGetIt Says:

Aiyo, i like this track.. We dey run things

"the way we dey sip, no be nothing/ ace of spades, no be nothing/ u're small redbull, u want grow wings/ your money too short, you're on a long thing"
