Video Premiere: Timaya – Yankuluya + God I Beg + I Don Blow

Posted on November 18th, 2009 by Ovie O

Mr. Timaya, aka the Egberipapa-1 of Bayelsa, has finally graced us with a set of new videos for the buzz singles on his last album, Gift & Grace. This time last year, he released a mediocre video for Yankuluya which, quite understandably, received scathing criticisms from several quarters. Now, he’s redone the video, and there’s obvious improvement.

For the Timaya haters, there’s even more good news: the distribution rights for the latest Timaya VCD has been sold to Abhu Ventures for a reported fee of 11milion Naira, in addition to the 25million Naira which was paid to him for the distribution rights for his last album, Gift & Grace. Whether you like am, whether you no like am, Timaya Don Blow!

Inasmuch as i will like to thank Mr. Timaya for makin me happy with his wonderful songs, i will honestly state that these videos are not different from the everyday music video we see on nigeria tv. He shouldn’t have wasted his money shootin video for these songs, and besides the videos are below par. He could hav done better video. I am not impressed, my only concern is his comin album which i am desperatly waitin to grab with my arms

I did enjoy watching the videos even though the songs sound alike. He has adopted a style that’s going to give him longevity without straining him. He’s not restricted to writing lyrics that rhyme. If it does not rhyme he just adds, “eeh” or “ooh,” or “chai.” You can’t go wrong with that. He’s going to be in the game for a long time, while making music effortlessly.

They all do the ‘cha’, ‘ooh’ and ‘eeh’ especially Terry G and KC Presh but Timaya is better at rhyming and his album tells a musical biography which makes him far relevant. Did anyone notice the colonial style city hall in the Yankulaya video. Mapo Hall is in the ancient city of Ibadan, recently refurbished by Governor Otunba Christopher Adebayo Akala B Sc, JP, his best achievement in office so far. Akin did a good job on this one with the location and video production but I think God I Beg eeh somehow looked like Kokoroko.

Which Akala?
the bleaching one?
which one be all these B Sc, JP?
Dude, try and get a life and get off this sycophantic crap you on here.
we are here to discuss music not some non entities.

I understand your anger KK at the ‘bleaching’ Akala and we are not are not going off on a tangent here. How can renovating a hall be termed ones best achievement in office? He’s done a good job though. I don’t know him, his friends, family nor his associates. I just happen to know his full name and titles which I was forced to know at a function in Iseyin recently. My comment was a swipe at our penchant for cheesy titles in Nigeria.
