Pope – Enjoy + Baale Baale

‘Born Michael Egube in Benin City, Pope spent his early years at oil-rich Warri before moving to Lagos. Drawing inspiration from a diverse range of influences including Method Man, Bob Marley, The Fugees and Fela; he started music at an early age, learning to play the keyboard in primary school. He later added the drums and bass guitar to his repertoire, as well as what would ultimately become his foremost skill: rap.‘

Pope’s sound excites me. You will hear a big Fela influence, but he (and the producer) add a lot more to the Fela elements on ‘Enjoy‘ and the song summons the right emotions that direct you to that ‘Enjoyment’ mode. The drums and mellow feel on ‘Baale Baale‘ just do it for me. Let me know what you guys think.
