#DearArtiste Forum: Music Promotion Seminar For Up & Coming Artists
Posted on February 1st, 2012 by Ovie OIf you’re a part of the Nigerian music industry, not just an up & coming artiste, this seminar spearheaded by Cool FM’s 4Lah is definitely for you. It’s happening this saturday in Lagos. Please read the whole write-up below. iEndorse!
#DEARARTISTE —MORE THAN A HASHTAG!
#Dearartiste started as random tweets to several upcoming Nigerian artistes who use twitter both as a social network and as a music promotional tool.
The desire to reach out and help came from coming across so many young people who have lofty dreams of becoming music superstars. Unfortunately, I observed that a lot of them fall under the pressure of trying to break into the industry and some get discouraged by the lack of acceptance and immediate success they hoped for, and so, let their dreams die.
Some in their desperation to be famous get involved in all sorts of shoddy arrangements without proper knowledge of how the industry works, and as a result, they get swindled and loose all faith.
I found an avenue to reach out to them via twitter, and with all glory to God, I believe I have been able to reach a few and still reaching more, through the #Dearartiste tweets.
The DEARARTISTE FORUM is me taking a step to ensure that more artistes are given the opportunity to learn first-hand from industry heads because no man is an island or a fountain of knowledge all by himself.
This forum will provide an avenue where these upcoming artistes will meet with ARTISTE MANAGERS, PRODUCERS, LABEL OWNERS, DJS, RADIO PRESENTERS, PUBLICISTS and other industry stake-holders.
Talks will be given by these industry heads, there will be a question and answer session & successful artistes will share some of their personal experiences to inspire the new ones.
*O.O*
HOW TO PARTICIPATE.
The forum is free for upcoming artistes who want to attend. All it takes is to register by sending your name, stage name, BB PIN and phone number to dearartiste@gmail.com
DATE: February 4th 2011
TIME: 10am
VENUE: Gajons Hotel and Suites, Alpha beach road, Lekki, Lagos.

U have a point, but Lagos just like NY and LA in America happens to be the commercial state of the country and appears to make the most sense to the organizers. If you are very passionate and you feel this competition could enhance ur career, I would suggest you at least take a trip to Lagos. Especially if music is your Plan A, B and C… If not you can wait until they come to PH.

good initiative and i wholeheartedly endorse it.
in addition, the organisers should be able to advice/tell the would-be/aspiring artist some home truth before they venture into an enterprise like music with high frustration/depression quotient. would-be artist should amonst other things be made aware;
that – not all that glitter is gold; Music is not for every tom, dick, ade-chukwu-ovie-ibrahim
that – the fact that my neighbour made it singing, is no guarantee that i would make it
(even with all things being equal, ceteris paribus);
those that have comparative advantage in other skills should go and maximise it (e.g sports et al);
Music as a form of art, apart from the talent which is a prerequisite, has intellectual side to it and artist should try and devote time to developing some form of consciousness, ideology fans can rally up to…
Nigerian Youth should also not abandon the sciences for easy-breezy music spotlight…
i dont like hearing someone read mechanical/chemical engineering to masters level and he jettisons it for akpako kinda music. me i cant fit shout. my volume is too low
