It is finally here; the notjustOk top 20 videos for 2009. All the videos in the countdown were derived from these votes. We cut them into 3 parts and uploaded the videos to youtube so that the good folks in Nigeria can watch the show comfortably. Feel free to give your feedback.
Sometime last week, I received a startling email from one of our reliable sources at a top radio station in Nigeria. The email, originally sent in by Bistop himself, included a brand new track from Bistop, the 3rd member of Bracket who reportedly left the group in order to further his education.
However, Bistop has returned with a new single and he’s also decided to clear the air on what really happened behind the scenes. Word is that his own verse was deleted off many of their hit singles including “Yori Yori.” We will bring you guys the original full version of the “Yori Yori” track as soon as we receive it.
Singer/Super-producer, Jay Martins, has released his sophomore album titled “Elevated” and it’s currently doing well in the local market.
The 10-track album (not counting the instrumentals) was co-written by Bracket, P-Square and J. Martins, and all the songs were produced by J. Martins himself. The featured artistes include Bracket, Jesse Jagz, Vector, Illbliss, Waje, and an international act, Wyre (from Kenya). It also features the only released single till date… Oyoyo!
Goodness me! If Owerri women were really this pretty, I’d relocate to Imo State sharply sharply. Kinda reminds me of the lovely ladies in Solid Star’sOne In A Million video with 2baba. Clarence surely knows where to find beautiful video models.
New love song from Enugu-based crooners, Bracket. These are the guys who made the ladies melt with their previous single “Yori Yori“, and this dispels any possibility of being classified as one-hit wonders.
All the songs on their new album have that characteristic “sweetness” you hear on most Igbo tunes, along with the involuntary body motion that accompanies it. The album also features heavyweights like P-Square, J. Martins, among others.
For those in Nigeria, you can purchase it at “Bros Chigozie’s” shop near you. (lol!). I’m currently enjoying it myself….
Let me start by saying that this is not a Top 10 list of any kind and there is no underlying reason why one song is listed before the other; there is no first or last.
notjustOk Select – 10 is a list of ten songs/posts that have made a major impact on the listeners/readers in a given month. Several factors come into determining how big of an impact a single post made in a given month, such as page views, record breaking amount of comments and constant mp3 request for the specific song. In addition to spotlighting the select 10s, we will provide a download link so that you can save the mp3s.
Now, for the month of March we are going to do things a little different; we have compiled the ‘Select – 10′ from content that was posted between January and March.
The sooner we start paying attention to talent from the East, the better for the naija music industry. We’ve heard the Desperate Chicks, Duncan Mighty, Resonance (Chinwe Ike), Nigga Raw, Timaya (among others), and u can be sure there’s more where those came from. There’s this freshness and uniqueness that comes with the sounds from Eastern Nigeria… maybe the industry should recognise it as a whole new music genre. Could there be a major power shift from Lagos to the wet zones of Port Harcourt and Enugu in 2009? With materials like this, I won’t bet against it.
‘Your love dey make my heart do Yori Yori’
Big-ups to DJ Dee Money for this joint. I’ll take this opportunity to remind everyone in and around Lagos to “sign in” at the TIWA WORKS event happening in Victoria Island tomorrow, the 27th of December. DJ Dee Money and DJ MightyMike of Naija DJs will be on the 1s and 2s. If you miss out, In Warri, we go say “U don error!”
