notjustOk Select-10 (January ‘10)

Posted on February 28th, 2010 by Mola OG

Another month has moved on and here is a new set of DOWNLOADABLE music as promised every month. January was another month full of new releases. One of the highlights of January was the BIG dialogue on the  ‘Maga No Need Pay’ song; a lot of emotions were stirred up due to that song alone.

Say hello to March as you Download. The Download Links will be up for 3 days only, so hurry and click on the Download Link!

notjustOk select is not a Top 10 list of any kind and there is no underlying reason why one song is listed before the other; there is no first or last.

notjustOk Select – 10 is a list of ten songs/posts that have made a major impact on the listeners/readers in a given month. Several factors come into determining how big of an impact a single post made in a given month, such as page views, record breaking amount of comments and constant mp3 request for the specific song. In addition to spotlighting the select 10s, we will provide a DOWNLOAD link so that you can save the mp3s.

The download link will be up for 3 DAYS ONLY! after which it will be deleted/deactivated!

I’ve been doing a lot of browsing lately; checking out the level of hiphop in other African countries, while engaging myself in productive discussions with my close buddies from several parts of Africa. In doing so, I got a chance to listen to a few rap albums by some of Africa’s finest lyricists. It will surprise you how good these guys are, and how blind some of us actually are when we conclude that the “best rapper in Nigeria” automatically becomes the “best rapper in Africa.”

Take South African rapper, Proverb, for example (he was on the All Around The A track Mola posted a couple of months back). I listened to his most recent album, Write of Passage (released in 2009) and I couldn’t skip a single track… not a single track!

“Promode” is one of the tracks on Proverb’s album which features Naija’s own rap kingpin, Mode 9. On this track, both rappers came korrect in a bid to show why they’re regarded by many across the continent as the best in the field (try counting the number of sick bars on this joint). I sincerely believe African hiphop has reached a point where we can comfortably sell it to the world. What ya think?

Extremely Crisp Video! I love this ‘coming together’ of emcees in Africa on one track; it shows unity even more so on video…

Big Shout out to Naeto C whose Sophomore album is due out soon (late 2009)
