It’s that time again when we bring together the TEN (10) most exciting songs/posts from the previous month; in this case, July 2010. July brought us several Marathon collaborations with the Cool2Vote Allstars song “I Go Vote” (by about 20 Nigerian artistes) being one of the major releases. Dignitaries like Nuhu Ribadu, the very first Executive Chairman of EFCC, visited notjustOk.com on several occasions and posted the link on Social Networks like Facebook and Twitter.

DJ KaySmith is one of the foremost DJs in Lagos who currently holds his own on one of the top radio stations on ground. He is working on hismixtape at the moment (still untitled) and “Move Your Body” featuring Skales is the lead single. We’ll bring you guys more singles in the near future.

That said, I’d like to make a case for Skales – undoubtedly one of the most talented young individuals in the game. His delivery was so superb you’d be tempted to think he’s a crooner/singer. Enjoy!

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s with great pleasure we bring you guys the official Cool2Vote anthem by several stars in the Nigerian music industry titled “I Go Vote”.

“It began like it was a joke. Some said it was a dream too lofty to achieve with Nigerian artistes. Twenty (20) artistes on one track? Who was going to produce it? How was it going to happen? But as all record-breaking feats have shown, the impossible is nothing. So it happened that between Tuesday 13th July and Monday 19th July, 2010, a period of about one week,  twenty (20) Nigerian artistes converged on the Ilupeju Lagos recording studio of Delta-born music producer Magege Theophilus (Ex-O) to lend their voices to the Cool2Vote Nigeria campaign with the recording of “I Go Vote” a song with a strong undiluted message encouraging Nigerians to participate actively in the forthcoming elections  and even future elections by registering to vote and showing up at the polls to cast their ballots.

Described as Nigeria’s biggest new age collaboration, the song parades some of Nigeria’s finest music talents now fondly dubbed The Cool2Vote All Stars. They include acts like Lami Philips, Sound Sultan, Waje, Wizkid, Skales, Kel, General Pype, Denzel, Wordsmith, Timi Dakolo, Skuki, Mo Cheddah, Mtrill, Emmsong, Iyanya, YQ, Efa, Oh! and Ex-O.

Speaking about the song, National Coordinator of the Cool2Vote Nigeria Campaign, Fi’ammari Machar Zoaka was very enthusiastic that the song will deliver its intended message across board. “Whether old or young, we believe this is one song that will surely resonate with all classes of the Nigerian people and get every Nigerian of voting age to register to vote and vote. The commitment which all artistes on this song displayed during the recording is remarkable. Nigeria will forever be grateful to them for this patriotic expression of belief and hope in the possibility of a new Nigeria, he said.” As the song leaks on NotJustOK.com, it will be officially premiered at the ROCKDAVOTE MEGA JAM scheduled to hold in Ibadan on Monday 26 July, 2010 at the Trenchard Hall, University of Ibadan.”

NAIJA STAND UP!!!!

Veteran music and movie soundtrack producer LayLow is here with the first single off his highly anticipated forth coming compilation album project which will involve over 50 top Nigerian artistes both locally and internationally. “Meet Me At The Top” features – in order of appearance – Iceberg Slim, CartiAir, Mode 9, Terry Tha Rapman, Skales, Vector, Dagrin (R.I.P) , Ludu & Gino.

In 2009, Tha Suspect’s “I No Send You” Mega-Remix was seen by many as the biggest hiphop collaboration of the year. This new effort from Laylow and the aforementioned rappers can be seen as the 2010 successor. It plays host to 9 of the finest Mcee’s in the land currently holding their own. The beat is dope, the verses are dope, the hook is dope!

Kaduna bred rapper, Skales who is currently signed to EME is out with a brand new single.

The first time I heard Skales was back in 2009, on “Must Shine” and his flow and content immediately caught my attention. He has since worked on several tracks and features including Banky W’s Can’t Stop Me off “The W Experience” album where he laid a solid verse.

On ‘Be Mine‘ he goes further to display not only his skills as a rapper, but also does a pretty good job with singing the hook. Looks like, his linking up with EME has brought out the crooner in Skales. Good mellow/bouncy joint.

Judging from all the material I have heard from Skales, it is safe to say that he is a quality rapper; I will cop the album when it gets released. His future is bright!

Jeremiah is back, just in time for Valentines day with 2 new “Love” themed songs. The first track ‘In Love with You‘ (Previously Posted) will be a good track to play at a wedding reception or can be used as background music when you are about to propose to your babe. Now on ‘God’s Love‘, the tune is so sweet that it makes me want to learn how to speak Hausa (can someone please translate that hook verbatim?)… 9ice verse by Skales too!

Jeremiah has been in the studio crafting new material for his forthcoming sophomore album which is planned for release later in the year. True Musician!

Skales) and ‘The Only One’. The tone of these songs, which evoke feelings of love, not towards the artiste but towards a lover, spouse or partner, showcases a deeper and more mature sound from the artiste/producer. The as yet untitled sophomore LP is already being touted as Jeremiah’s absolute tour de force!‘

Fresh material from another J-Town kid on the block. Skales, a very talented teenager, was previously introduced to us earlier on in the summer.

As usual, he shows alot of promise of both tracks. With cats like these, I’m convinced the future of Naija music is very safe!
