So, Vector has decided not to joke with his music in 2010.
Here’s Vector’s official 2nd single, after the release of “Kilode” off his soon-to-be-released debut album titled “State of Surprise.” On this joint, Vector takes us to “Jamaica” with “Mary Jane” as the theme of the song (…go figure), and the production/beats also falls along the same line.
I’m sure we all agree that Vector DOES NOT sound like Jay-Z on this joint. IMO, he’s quickly carving out his own “vocal identity”. Whether you agree with me or not, one thing’s for sure: his lyrics are his! V.E.C. might just become a real force in Naija’s HipHop market sooner than later. Listen and share your thoughts…

See, my eye dey tint! My brain don off and I dey think of how to think!
In many quarters, it is believed that the emergence of hip hop in Nigeria in 2009 is only a sign of what is to come in 2010. All the heavy rappers in the industry have earmarked 2010 as an album-releasing year, and the relatively newer ultra-talented cats have also decided to drop their own bombs (no terrorism affiliation, pls) this year.
Vector is one of the newer hip hop dragons hoping to offset the established order with a debut album rightly titled “State of Surprise.”
On the track “Kilode,” Vector goes in at full throttle on his detractors who constantly downplay his relevance based on the fact that he sounds like “a certain multi-platinum selling US rapper.” He goes on to ask us why we would readily accept other folks aping other artistes, and boldly calls out names of those doing it.
Some may consider this a bold move (calling out names), some may call it a diss. Let me know what you think…

You ain’t got a problem with Pype and Sean Paul | M.I, Kanye and Weazy, not at all | You ain’t got a problem with D’Banj and Durella | But when it comes to Vector the Viper and Roc-A-Fella… you fellas go crazy on me.

notjustOk hype will feature (or may be not) the future heavy hitters
in naija music. Any material featured in this category will be from
unsigned or up and coming Nigerian/African, artists/rappers/producer/record label that
contain nothing but promising content. There will only be a post a
month in this category.
If you have or know of anyone’s music that you feel is a hit or any good, please send an email to notjustokmusic with a link to their page or where I can download the song. ***If you can email me the song, please be sure to zip it first before sending it as an attachment***
Let me start by saying that this is not a Top 10 list of any kind and there is no underlying reason why one song is listed before the other; there is no first or last.
notjustOk Select – 10 is a list of ten songs/posts that have made a major impact on the listeners/readers in a given month. Several factors come into determining how big of an impact a single post made in a given month, such as page views, record breaking amount of comments and constant mp3 request for the specific song. In addition to spotlighting the select 10s, we will provide a download link so that you can save the mp3s.
Now, for the month of March we are going to do things a little different; we have compiled the ‘Select – 10′ from content that was posted between January and March.
This is the video for a previous post. It may not be as good as the ones from the bigger boys, but… we really can’t blame them for not having adequate finances (top videos cost close to 2million Naira these days). Boys are making the most of what they have.
In more local terms, “half-bread is better than full chin-chin.”
J’Bryte, real name Sodiq Derek Ajibola, is originally from Ogun State but he was raised in Lagos. He’s currently signed to Smasher’s Records, and he’s set to release an album.
If you still don’t know Vector at this point, you’re on an extremely lengthy thing! In a year, the rest of Nigeria, home and abroad would be singing his name as the new messiah! I’m already sold on him. Enjoy!
The King of UNILAG rap battles has finally come out gunz blazing! This dude has been widely celebrated as one of the best underground battle rappers from Yaba all the way to the Island… now he's set his mind on going nationwide. I gotta say I'm already a huge fan. Sooner or later, the whole nation would be on his palms. What do you think?
Note: This is still unmastered!
