Ladies and gentlemen, it’s with great pleasure we bring you guys the official Cool2Vote anthem by several stars in the Nigerian music industry titled “I Go Vote”.

“It began like it was a joke. Some said it was a dream too lofty to achieve with Nigerian artistes. Twenty (20) artistes on one track? Who was going to produce it? How was it going to happen? But as all record-breaking feats have shown, the impossible is nothing. So it happened that between Tuesday 13th July and Monday 19th July, 2010, a period of about one week,  twenty (20) Nigerian artistes converged on the Ilupeju Lagos recording studio of Delta-born music producer Magege Theophilus (Ex-O) to lend their voices to the Cool2Vote Nigeria campaign with the recording of “I Go Vote” a song with a strong undiluted message encouraging Nigerians to participate actively in the forthcoming elections  and even future elections by registering to vote and showing up at the polls to cast their ballots.

Described as Nigeria’s biggest new age collaboration, the song parades some of Nigeria’s finest music talents now fondly dubbed The Cool2Vote All Stars. They include acts like Lami Philips, Sound Sultan, Waje, Wizkid, Skales, Kel, General Pype, Denzel, Wordsmith, Timi Dakolo, Skuki, Mo Cheddah, Mtrill, Emmsong, Iyanya, YQ, Efa, Oh! and Ex-O.

Speaking about the song, National Coordinator of the Cool2Vote Nigeria Campaign, Fi’ammari Machar Zoaka was very enthusiastic that the song will deliver its intended message across board. “Whether old or young, we believe this is one song that will surely resonate with all classes of the Nigerian people and get every Nigerian of voting age to register to vote and vote. The commitment which all artistes on this song displayed during the recording is remarkable. Nigeria will forever be grateful to them for this patriotic expression of belief and hope in the possibility of a new Nigeria, he said.” As the song leaks on NotJustOK.com, it will be officially premiered at the ROCKDAVOTE MEGA JAM scheduled to hold in Ibadan on Monday 26 July, 2010 at the Trenchard Hall, University of Ibadan.”

There are only a handful of female singers that I look forward to hearing from every single time. Waje is one that particularly excites me. The strength and depth in her voice sets her apart from many others, and leaves one wondering why she still hasn’t seized that “Best Female Artiste” crown in Nigeria just yet.

“For A Minute” is her latest single which further buttresses my point. She hits high notes effortlessly and is so flexible with her vocal range. Another beautiful song added to her growing list, in my opinion. To the lyrics of the song, I wonder how many girls out there would REALLY want to be a man’s girl for only a minute (aka side-chick) knowing fully well that he has a woman back home. Y’all end up wanting more! If there’s anyone out there though, please…. hmm hmmm *clears throat*… I reserve my comment.

Back to Waje, her album is billed to drop sometime in September, 2010. We’ll keep you guys posted on that. Please, share your wonderful thoughts….

UMUNNAMU!!! The Legend is with us again!

Rapper 2Shotz is fixing to release his 5th (and possibly final) album very shortly, and our esteemed notjustOk readers/listeners now have a chance to listen to several tracks on the album before it hits the streets of Nigeria. It’s a 14-track album with one bonus joint. Guest appearances include M.I, Shank, Jesse Jagz, Ice Prince, YQ, Enze, Lynxx, Olstar, Waje. Production credits include some of the finest in the industry, Cobhams, Dr Frabz, Jesse Jagz, eLDee, Terry G, J-Smith, Spanky and IKON!

In addition, the leaked version of “William” (titled “I Am William”) posted a month ago will not make the final cut on the album. The final album version is posted below as “Track 2.” Other previously-unreleased tracks on the album, which you can listen to below, are “2nite” ft Waje & Olstar, and “Na You Sabi.” If I were you, I’d start piling pressure on my local vendor to get it right after release. “I Am William” toh bad!

Str8 Buttah is a Lagos-based collective of MCs – Teckzilla, XYZ, R-Cube, Deck the Nexus, Enigma and Rae – an amalgamation of crews and solo artistes that frequently interacted in the Lagos underground scene in the early 00’s, united by mutual respect, time-tested friendships and their undying love for hip-hop. Mr Capable has come back with 2 new mellow bangers in preparation for his next album, ‘The W Experience‘. I have heard 4 songs (Strong Ting and Lagos Party) from the new album and I am sure (after listening) that you will agree that all four are SINGLE worthy. ‘Lagos Party‘ video was shot about 2 weeks ago somewhere in Lekki and should be released soon.

Banky W appears to be on a mission to completely step up the standards on what a Naija artist should deliver holistically. From his video for ‘Strong Ting’ to the caliber of music we have experienced thus far from this new album, it is safe to say that Banky W will be a very strong brand in 2010, all things being equal.
