M.I – Talk About It

Posted on December 3rd, 2008 by Ovie O

A creative and conscious song track from MI. He is talking about a serious matter but he still makes it fun to listen to. Impressive!

Shouts out to Huey. It's naija music cartel

I’m actually underwhelmed. M.I. has set the bar so high for himself that this, while better than a lot of other rappers, just doesn’t live up to my expectations. And it seemed that trying to speak on a pressing issue constrained his freewheeling rhyme style, which lowers his overall Rapper Rating (tm, patent pending :p)
In Ife in Nigeria, there’s an annual Christian music festival called Living Spring. Every year, invariably, one guy would come up and say, “I want to focus on the WORDS – don’t pay attention to the music!” Well, then, don’t fucking SING. Write a poem, or a book or something.
It’s fine if you ask me to pay attention to the words in addition to the music – but the music has to be up to par. In terms of melody and song writing, this fell a little flat. It’s decent, but he can do better.
