Sasha P – Gidi Babe (World Premiere)

Posted on June 2nd, 2009 by Mola OG

Sasha P, 1st lady of Storm and evidently the biggest femcee in the game is back on the scene since we saw her last.

She is currently in the studio with Tee-YMix knocking out tracks for her new album which does not have a release date yet.

What do you think of this one? She drops knowledge and spits hard on it.

List Of Female rappers in d country are coming up, but hold up people, we shldnt be encouraging crap n trash, if it isnt good,”if the girl is not a rapper to be” say it, there’s no talk about encouragement. girls like Goldie shld get a 9-5 job, SASHA shld stop all the “gra-gra” and tk it eazy, we dnt expct an album full with crap, if u tk 2yrs to make an album and it’s good, better, but dnt tk 2yrs to make rubbish, PLEASE ::find ur creativity.
Big Ups to CAPITOL HILL they ve eye for talent,- EVA, KEL. THA SUSPECT keep doin ur thing, maybe SASHA shld come to u for tutorials.

(think i went to far, NO I DIDN’T, I JUST SPOKE MY MIND)

I personally think this is a good song… no need to compare Kel
to Sasha.. they both got their different flows and swag..Sasha killed the Gidi Babe for me..no doubt…

I am really not a fan of Sasha cos a flows comes off as a nursery rhyme….but I must admit dat she is a femcee wit a DIVA MENTALITY which is evident by da content of her lyrics (so feminine) and her dress sense (wacky fashion)….which MAKES HER STANDOUT IN A GOOD WAY most times…..and she has always managed to stay relevant by sheer associating herself wit da right click 24/7 i.e mohits crew, WFA…..INOTHERWORDS, SASHA KNOWS HOW TO HUG DA SPOTLIGHT…interms of talent and consistency, NO …….but strategy and game plan, YES….

@Kel is more hardcore than Sasha….while Sasha has logged more years in the industry than Kel….so how do we compare, now?…..BUT IF IT BOILS DOWN TO CONSISTENCY, I give it to kel….

@Song…Its a very good song which can definitely rule da airwaves and be considered a TYPICAL GIDI GAL ANTHEM if promoted in da right manner…..

keep repping, Sasha….

Honestly, i think comparing Kel to Sasha at this point in Kel’s career is a great disservice to the talented femcee that is Kel. Sasha has been rapping for over 8 years and has been a staple ever since while Kel is just beginning to find her feet and establish a fan base… So pls dont compare them.

Besides, I dont think Kel or Sasha are in direct competition and the chances that Sasha put out this single to ‘cover Kel’s shine’ are minimal.

Moving on to the song, its the type of jam that gets better with each punch of the rewind button. However, i certainly feel that hook could have benefited from a stronger delivery. Sasha’s word play is on point, but no comments on the purported yankee accent…

Not too sure the average Lagos babe on the street would be able to relate to this (guess that remains to be seen) but solid jam, none-the-less.

i like the song. not bad. nice content. why are ppl talking as if every single song these artists drop has to cure cancer or something? its funny how music has become a competition even for “listeners”. na why ppl dey drop rubbish left and right. no artistry, just gimmicks and noise. do ur thing girl…

@ Nate, your comment has really impressed me today. You’ve been involved in some less encouraging “war of words” but this completely erases all that off my memory.

My problem lately is that people are trying to fight negativity (or possible facts) with negativity. When someone’s favorite artiste is dissed, they look out for the artiste’s “rival” or competition and start throwing knives, aiming guns, or possibly even calling on their personal native doctors to strike down the artiste as soon as the song is posted.

It’s not a war! *smh*

@ ideasplus, Sasha did not decide to release this song “to counter the Kel single.” Neither did she actually intend to release it this week. We did! If you’re facebook friends with “Notjust Ok”, you would have seen one of the statuses…

“Sasha is about to drop a new single – Gidi Babe… The Storm 1st Lady is Back!”… and this was TWO (2) weeks back.

Let’s be a bit more objective, folks! Handle each post independently and there’ll be less animosity.

I just call it how i see it. But if you read any of my prior posts you probably noticed that i said i wasn’t going to comment critically anymore. I got tired of the arguements. I have never disparaged any artists work here. i keep it objective but ppl tend to get irrational and most have no clue what they are talking about. So now i just give props to what i like and thats it. We need our artists encouraged and supported and thats what i’m about.

I must say, i’m quite disappointed by this track. I’m a big Sasha fan and i’ve been waiting and waiting. I know she can definitely do better. I don’t particularily like Kel because of the accent, but she will soon be crowned number 1 if she dosen’t have any competition. Sasha was supposed to be that competition, but not at this rate.
Before fire and brimstone start falling…THIS IS JUST MY OPINION
@ Ovie..can i ask you something seriously. How come for some posts, you’re completely indifferent and for some others, you patrol the boards trying to convince everyone it’s a good track?
Just want to know if you guys are now into artist promotion.

Lemme start by saying u’re a lady with some real courage. Many ppl would have chickened out of leaving comments here ‘cos of the barrage of insults thrown at you left, right and centre. I’m glad u’re still here. 9ice one.

Now, I believe I’ve answered a similar qstn on a previous post b4 (see Darey – No Stars). When I have an opinion, I choose to share it… even more so when it comes to the lady-artistes. Since u’re a woman, u should understand that y’all need support, and if this is the only way I can lend a helping hand, I’ll be more than happy 2 do that. (see my comments on Sasha, Fab5, Kel and Omawumi, the last 4 lady-posts we’ve had).

Are we into artist promotion?? uhh… yes??

I honestly would have thot being a bit more verbal (like sum-1 requested) would make this more fun. I was thinking droppin’ comments, leaving replies, etc would let our readers know we’re into this as much as u guys are. Well, what do I know?

@ovie..I’ve heard you. she had one good song since 2001. “adara” yet she’s the queen of the Femcee throne. Doesn’t that tell you something’s gotta change in the game?

I’m only asking for our females to stand out. don’t be afraid to be different. “I rap” alone is not going to cut it.

either way, I’ll still support. Sasha comes to my city to do a show for an appropriate fee, i’ll be there.

if this is a reactive move to counter the kel single….wrong move babe…this is a business …not too many people would look forward to ur album with dis as a first single….nice idea with the gidi babe thingie….but not well exploited….but this song as a first single….sasha u can do better…speak frm the heart like u did with adara and add a bit of swagga and it all be fine…

And for all of u…she is nt forming fone…if u speak french speak like the french, if u speak german speak like a german would…if u speak english make an effort speak it like oyinbo wld…lol

This joint is heavy in every aspect! The “so fly” came from Three 6 Mafia, but she still pulled it off well. It took me a few listens to get the drill, but yeah! I’m there now.

Whether we like it or not, Sasha still holds the crown y’all. But watch Kel. I expect Kel to give her a good fight after “The Investment” drops on the 22nd. I’ll re-access my stance in 3-6months. That’s how long it’ll take to really gauge her success.

Blaise? when she decides to make herself more.. err… “useful” in the Studio, I’ll rate her. U don’t suddenly become the best rapper after a pair of singles. Longevity-slash-consistency, coupled with a healthy dose of sheer quality, are keys to determining who’s at the upper echelon of the game. MIMS never became the best rapper in New York simply cos he dropped “this is why I’m hot.”

Once again, Kel is still the only one with a realistic chance of catching up, for now (notice I said “for now”).

@ MusicNaMyOwn, with all due respect, apparently you really haven’t been fully in tune with the Naija Hiphop market. Sasha’s last album did quite well. If you dispel the track, “Adara” then maybe I don’t even know what a hit is anymore. When people talk about a Naija femcee, Sasha’s name is still the first on everyone, and I mean everyone’s lips.

That said, it’s good to see all the ladies stepping up to the plate. Healthy competition is ALWAYS a good thing. I’m all for it.

Not a bad song, it was more of lyrics than anything else. Fab5 still not touching this. Kel too should get inspired(by the lyrical content of course). Don’t like the beat or the hook. A different beat may have helped the hook.

The lyrics undoubtably tells of a wannabe mentality. Besides, “Lagos Girl,” “Lag girls,” “Omo Eko,” “Sisi Eko” in the most popular context is meant to be derogatory.
No need for preaching, listen to the song. Nuff said.

maybe we are not listening to the same song, but Im sure she calls herself a gidi babe, so I doubt she wud be insulting herself, she is just calling out the fake gidi babes and not necessarily using the term gidi babe as an insult

someone asked her to switch her flow. lol and its almost like they wrote it for her because she doesn’t deliver with convinction. “HERE SHE COMES, OH NO”…lol..them force am?

i really enjoy the way the beat switches, almost forcing her to switch with every 4 bars or so. “oya” dropped in what year? 2001? 8 years later and no growth? Give me a Kel or some of the “FAB 5″ instead please.

i like the main verses more than the hook. the part that’s supposed to catch us is lacking energy. can’t help but keep going to Destiny’s child’s “Independent Ladies” when I hear d hook though. “i got it..i got it”

small props…but still not dbanjing. :)

ps: It’s funny how the f’emcees back home use yankeefied accents, but the ones over here always want to throw in naijafied stuff
