By far the most common relationship present in Nigeria’s (Naija) music industry is the Artist-Manager relationship. Only a handful of artists are signed to record labels but when it comes to managers, almost all artists seem to have managers. Indeed it is not uncommon to hear artists say, “talk to my manager” or showoff that they have managers. Because this relationship is so prevalent, it only makes sense I lead off my review of the numerous kinds of music contracts with the Artist-Manager contract.
I cover both perspectives and how to negotiate regardless of what hats you wear. Lets go “dia” with another round of “Ask Ms. Uduak on NotJuskOK.com!”
Funny and well written treatment that I am sure most of us will like. I like the fact that the video has a story line, humor and a little suspense. The video definitely makes the song sound even better.
Saucekid delivered with both the song and video. Also, you get to see more of Don Jazzy than you ever seen before in any one video.
Under G is dangerous business; Imagine if the video had ended the way we all expected, what would Don Jazzy have done? We might have seen a Cutlass, Axe or Gun in this video…
So, Vector has decided not to joke with his music in 2010.
Here’s Vector’s official 2nd single, after the release of “Kilode” off his soon-to-be-released debut album titled “State of Surprise.” On this joint, Vector takes us to “Jamaica” with “Mary Jane” as the theme of the song (…go figure), and the production/beats also falls along the same line.
I’m sure we all agree that Vector DOES NOT sound like Jay-Z on this joint. IMO, he’s quickly carving out his own “vocal identity”. Whether you agree with me or not, one thing’s for sure: his lyrics are his! V.E.C. might just become a real force in Naija’s HipHop market sooner than later. Listen and share your thoughts…
*O.O*
See, my eye dey tint! My brain don off and I dey think of how to think!

Ladies and Gentlemen, allow me to introduce you to one HELL of a singer who goes by the name, Smiley! I’ve had her songs for over a month, but I’ve been looking for a “perfect time” to post them up for you guys to listen and critique. However, I’ve only just realised that there’s no such thing as a “perfect time” for timeless music. I had to communicate directly with her just to be sure she’s fully Nigerian at heart and reps the Motherland (she dey rep us heavy!!!).
Smiley, whose real name is Giovanna Akindele, was born in Italy to Nigerian parents, but she grew up in Lagos. She attended Estaport Primary School, Gbagada, and Federal Govt College, Ijaniki before moving to Manchester, England at the age of 13 where she’s been performing ever since (now, she’s 19).
Listen to these songs and tell me you’re not wowed by her singing ability. She particularly tore up the classic song “Flying Without Wings.” You can tell I’m very very impressed. What are your thoughts on this precocious talent?
Happy New Week NotJustOk.com readers. I hope this week brings you success and the wonderful things your heart desires. No matter the problem in life, never let it weigh you down. Stay optimistic! Alright, “LET’S GO DIA” on our topic today!

As Nigeria’s entertainment industry grows, we see it becoming more sophisticated and talents and entertainment companies looking to the court system to resolve disputes. While Nigeria (Naija) might not have a great criminal justice or civil law system, when it comes to commercial/contract disputes (a subset of Nigeria’s civil law system), we find that Nigeria’s legal system manages to work relatively okay. For NotJustOk readers in Yankee, the legal system, as we know, definitely works especially with contract disputes. So, cutting straight to the chase, today’s topic deals with understanding and dissecting music contracts. In this article, I set the foundation for what is to come with a focus on the basic principles of a legal contract you should know if you are an artist signing a record label contract or a label drafting a contract to be signed.
