News broke over the weekend that a well-known artiste, Danny Young, was involved in a car accident on the 25th of June on Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos, while heading to a Kentro World video shoot. Surprisingly, he still made it to the video shoot, and fainted afterwards before he was rushed to the hospital. This news came on the same day we received his new song “Bless Me” featuring Lord of Ajasa.
notjustOk.com has been keeping tabs on his health since the accident, and the latest update from his management this morning is that he’s recovering well at an unnamed Hospital in Lagos. The latest X-Ray shows that nothing major happened to him aside wounds/cuts on his left hand and head. He’s expected to be discharged from the hospital soon.
Remember Danny Young in your prayers!

Sometime last week, we informed you guys that we were nominated for the “Best Music Blog” Award at the Nigerian Blog Awards 2010 and the polls were opened from May 31st to June 6th for Nigerians all over the world to cast their votes. All the winners in the various categories were announced this morning… and guess what… We Won!
Mola OG and I would like to take this opportunity to thank YOU and to also say congratulations to all of us for OUR award ’cause we’re all in this notjustOk movement together. As the support keeps coming in, we’ll continue striving to serve you guys better. We’d also like to give a shout-out to all the other winners as well as nominees. Ladies and gentlemen, sadly, it has come to our knowledge that the artiste Smiley, who we chose as our current notjustOk Hype, is indeed NOT A REAL ARTISTE but a mere impostor and a CON ARTISTE.
At the start of March, we first featured Smiley as a way of introducing her to the Nigerian online community. The quality of her music (or so we thought) was so good that she instantly started garnering fans from all corners, including major artistes, record labels, fellow bloggers and other industry observers.
But on Sunday, May 16th, Gidilounge.com posted some startling revelations about this said artiste, and it’s been the talk of Twitter since then. Smiley is not the innocent and charming 19-year-old Italian-born Nigerian-raised music bombshell we all thought she was. Rather, she is a perfect embodiment of fraud, lies and deceit.
NONE of Smiley’s songs (including those on Reverbnation and Facebook) were actually written, produced or performed by her. Instead, according to the latest findings, she basically STOLE songs from other relatively-unknown artistes and sent them in as hers.
To that effect, notjustOk.com would like to take this opportunity to apologise to the whole Nigerian online community for unknowingly promoting fraudulent content, and from this moment, all ties with the CON ARTIST, Giovanna Adetoke “Smiley” Akindele, are totally dissolved.

“Smiley” has shut down all her Social Networking/online accounts including her blog, Twitter, Reverbnation and Facebook. Artistes she stole from include – but are not limited to - the following:

Sometime last week, I received a startling email from one of our reliable sources at a top radio station in Nigeria. The email, originally sent in by Bistop himself, included a brand new track from Bistop, the 3rd member of Bracket who reportedly left the group in order to further his education.
However, Bistop has returned with a new single and he’s also decided to clear the air on what really happened behind the scenes. Word is that his own verse was deleted off many of their hit singles including “Yori Yori.” We will bring you guys the original full version of the “Yori Yori” track as soon as we receive it.
What do you make of this shocking development?

eLDee is really out there, putting his money where his mouth is at the ‘Walk for Light’ rally which was held in Lagos right in front of Governor Fashola’s office on Oct 19th. This is lovely, as you can see it is not just a twitter/internet movement. So keep tweeting and facebooking #LightupNigeria; sooner or later, they will listen and start doing something to fix this disgraceful issue in Nigeria.
Dban’j on the other hand decides to talk about Green Nigeria in this video… He also speaks very highly of Governor Fashola who happens to be doing a great job in Lagos. Is D’banj the spokesperson for the ‘Green Nigeria’ initiative?
The MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAs) went down today in Nairobi, Kenya. Nigeria’s own M.I won 2 awards for Best Hip Hop and Best New Act. See the rest of the winners below. More pictures to come!
