VIDEO: Wande Coal Nude Photo Saga – Celebrities Show Support

Posted on August 2nd, 2010 by Ovie O

The biggest news of the year in the Nigerian entertainment industry (bar DaGrin’s death) is the leaked nude photos of Wande Coal which is still doing rounds over the internet. We posted Mohits’ Press Release denying the authenticity of the picture, and the public outcry has been ceaseless ever since.

Silverbird TV’s E-Weekly Show has gone a step further by interviewing other superstars to get their opinions; and the support has been massive! I particularly loved the part where Anita Hogan, a fellow victim of a celebrity nude photo scandal, got on stage to give Wande a hug. Watch and share your thoughts.

VIDEO: DaGrin on Entertainment Weekly

Posted on June 10th, 2010 by Ovie O

The good folks on Entertainment Weekly ( a show which airs on Silverbird TV) did a special coverage of DaGrin to commemorate the life and times of the Legendary rapper. On both clips, lots of industry colleagues, Police officers, and other people of interest were interviewed. I personally got the opportunity to speak with his manager, Tunde Peters and star artiste & Label mate, DJ Zeez over the weekend at the Naija DJs Summer Jam in Houston, Texas, and they’re still struggling to recover from the devastating loss.

Our hearts go out to the Olaonipekun family as they cope with the loss of their major breadwinner. RIP DaGrin!

VIDEO: BET Sunday Best 3 – Nigeria Auditions

Posted on April 11th, 2010 by Ovie O

My Naija peoplez, the good ol’ American Television Network, BET (Black Entertainment Television) decided to take the Award-winning Gospel Talent Show, “Sunday Best” to Nigeria this year, and the very first auditions for Season 3 was Premiered last Sunday, April 4th… from our very own Lagos, Nigeria.

The ongoing show is hosted by Multiple Grammy Award winner, Kirk Franklin, and the judges for the Lagos auditions included Donnie McClurkin, Kim Burell and Nigerian-born singer, Muyiwa Olarewaju. I thoroughly enjoyed the first part of the Nigerian auditions for several reasons: the talents, the non-talents, and as expected, the jokers. However, I must say Muyiwa was excessively harsh in his judgment for virtually every contestant. I’m guessing the organizers told him to be the “Simon” of the show, but… maybe he took it a lil too far. Watch and enjoy! Lest I forget, HAPPY SUNDAY!

Video: Promo for the Nigerian Entertainment Industry

Posted on December 20th, 2009 by Ovie O

Here’s a video highlighting the growth and stability of the Nigerian Entertainment Industry from the view-point of Nollywood (the movie sector) and Nigerian music in general. In the last few years, Nollywood has grown into one of the most financially viable and popular movie industries across the globe. From Africa, all the way to the Carribean Islands, the movie industry has grown in leaps and bounds, and now the music sector is starting to show real signs of attaining such international recognition.

Today, Nigerian music is probably the highest selling across Africa, with the likes of Kenny Ogungbe (Kennis Music and formerly, 2face Idibia), Obi Asika (Storm 360 and Naeto C), M.I, Cobhams, Nneka, Banky W, Darey, Asa, D’Banj, P-Square, and many others building on the foundation set by the Legends, Fela and Femi Kuti, Lagbaja, Sade, Dr. Alban, Onyeka Onwenu, King Sunny Ade, and a few others.

We end 2009 as Africa’s Power-Hub of entertainment, and with so many releases billed for 2010 (including 2face, M.I, Naeto C, eLDee, Mo Hits and more), we have every reason to believe that Nigeria will be taking a huge step closer to establishing itself as a major world player in the entertainment industry. Watch the video below. Hop on-board. We’re in for a sweet ride!

You are the one that is responsible for your own image. America is not gonna start saying good things about Nigeria! Nigeria has to say good things about Nigeria!2face Idibia.

Video: Tuface Idibia Celebrates 10th Anniversary @ the Dome, Abuja

Posted on August 16th, 2009 by Ovie O

Modern-day Nigerian music Legend, Innocent Ujah Idibia aka 2face, recently celebrated 10 years of being in the entertainment industry. Inspite of all the negative reports attributed to him, this guy has been very instrumental in shaping up the industry, and helping us break into the international market.

I’ve had the privilege of being in the studio with him while he recorded a track. He comes in without a clue of what the song will be… and before you know it, he already has a verse written AND recorded. Pure Genius! I tell you. He’s also possibly the most humble and nicest guy out there.

Let’s honor the living greats while they’re still fully with us. My heart-felt congratulations goes out to a true African music Icon!
